Sunday, April 03

Wow, and I thought YESTERDAY was a lazy morning. My clock said 11 when I first woke up…and I hadn’t changed the time yet. So yeah, the day was half over before it even began, but that’s what Sundays are for I guess. We pretty much just vegged and watched bad TV for most of the day, and (again) didn’t really accomplish much until mid-afternoon. Still, we were ready on-time for our 6:30 showing of “Little Shop of Horrors” at Wharton, and looked oh-so-cute when we got there (by “we” I mean Stefanie). The show was a lot of fun, and I think they did a pretty good job of transitioning the movie onto the stage since the new songs seemed to fit in so well. Of course, my favorite is still “I Am Your Dentist” though. Anyway, we went to our usual late night dinner spot—Lou and Harry’s—on the way back to the apartment, and made it back just in time for the women’s game against Tennessee. It was a bloodletting for most of the second half, and our Spartans were down by a whopping 16 points before making the largest-ever comeback in a women’s Final Four game to win by four! What a finish! Well, at least there’s SOME good news in Spartan-land this weekend. Never send a man to do a woman’s job I guess.

Saturday, April 02

Oh man, what a great sleeping in morning. It looked really bright this morning/afternoon at first, so we got up the great idea to try and play some more tennis. Of course, as soon as we got all ready to play and made it out to the courts, it was cold, cloudy, and insanely windy, so that lasted all of 5 min. Our only other alternative would’ve been to go play at the Indoor Tennis Facility, but they were booked all day with a women’s match, so that was out too. So, Stefy and I just spent a majority of the day inside watching TV and taking it easy (I know—a shock). We finally got up some gumption and got ready by the latter half of the afternoon, and headed up to NCG for another movie. Today’s pick was “Hitch”, which was another pleasant surprise. I read nothing but mediocre reviews about it, but everyone we knew who’d seen it really enjoyed the movie, and we both ended up really liking it. What can I say—that Will Smith is just too damn charming. After the movie we had another brilliant idea, which was to check out the seating situation at Champps for watching the MSU/UNC basketball game. Of course, it was after 7 by then, and the place was packed to the gills, so we ended up heading over to Breslin to watch the game. We caught the tail end of the Illinois game, and grabbed a couple $1 hot dogs for dinner while we waited. Once our game finally started, a pretty good chunk of the lower bowl was filled with crazy MSU fans, and it was a pretty exciting atmosphere to watch the game in. Of course, that enthusiasm only lasted until the second half began, when the Spartan’s finally ran out of magic. It was still a lot of fun, and we were thoroughly proud of our rag-tag group of players—what a run! We came back to the apartment afterwards crashed with a re-run of SNL of TV. It’s hard to find Topher Grace funny anytime, let alone when your team just lost their Final Four game. Sigh. Until next season…

Friday, April 01

I got into work at around the usual time for a Friday morning today. I was walking in right as Wanda was walking out since she wasn’t feeling well, so that made for a pretty quiet day. Things did liven up for a little bit this morning when Christi finally came into the office after her near-death experience with blood clots in her leg. She was looking pretty good though, and came in with a big box of Dunkin’ Donuts AND bought us all lunch for some reason. I think they’ve got the poor women on too many pain killers or something, but you can’t complain about a free lunch. Anyway, I took off a little early this afternoon because Stef and I had our first official meeting for Study Abroad at Wells at around 3. Of course, EVERY kid who’s going to London this summer was there, and the Study Abroad people clearly weren’t expecting such a high turnout because there weren’t enough seats for everyone, meaning that we had to switch rooms so everyone could fit in. So, they basically managed to kill about 40 min before the presentation actually started, and then proceeded to have about a million technical problems running PowerPoint. What a joke. There was some decent information, but nothing too specific. After looking at the information booklet they gave us though, it looks like I’m booked to be in the shittiest dorm in London. All the other buildings offer 1 or 2 meals a day, but there is no café service in mine for some reason. The other great feature is that it’s the only one that has SOME double rooms…meaning that I might have a roommate. So yeah, that could be a bummer. Well anyway, Stef had a meeting after the generic one for her specific group, so I went back to the pad for a little bit to do some tidying up before doubling back to pick her up and go to the movies afterwards. Our pick for the night was “The Upside of Anger”, which was a lot better than I’d expected. I mean, for a movie that’s basically about the miserable life of a wealthy, bitter, semi-divorced mother of 4…it was actually pretty funny. We popped over to Wal-Mart of all places after the movie to do a little DVD shopping. Stefy picked up “Beetlejuice”, and we also grabbed some junk food for our late night movie, which is always a good combo. We swung by Lou and Harry’s on the way back to the pad—that place is quickly becoming our home-away-from-home—and picked up some real food for dinner. Anyway, I REALLY liked Beetlejuice (I’d never seen it before), and we had a nice, quiet, movie night at home.

Thursday, March 31

Well, my film classes were cancelled today since my professor is out of the country, but I still got to sleep in until about 8:30 which was nice. I made it into the office at around 10 this morning, and worked just a couple hours before taking off to meet my dad and Brian up at Frandor for lunch. We ate at Apple Jade, which is this Chinese place I’d never been to before. I got General Tso’s—my usual—and it was REALLY good. It was really nice to get one last chance to see my dad and Brian today, since both of them are going out of town on vacations tomorrow. Dad’s going to Tampa with Sherry and the girls, and Brian is flying to the Dominican Republic for about a week. Anyway, it was a really nice lunch, but I still had to head back into the office after we were done. The afternoon went by pretty fast though, and I took off right around 4. I picked up Stef at the dorm and we came back to the apartment and watched “Star Wars”, since we’re already getting anxious for Episode III next month. I had some of my leftover Jersey Giant sandwich from last night for dinner while we watched Jeopardy, and then we made a quick run back to the dorm for a little while. We ended up hanging out for a bit because Stef wanted to see “Extreme Makeover” on ABC. So anyway, that was pretty much it for Thursday. Tomorrow is a typical early morning day at the office, and I’m sleepy.

Wednesday, March 30

Sociology this morning. We split up into gender-specific groups to list off all the stereotypes of the opposite sex. It was actually pretty funny. When one girl said that a male trait is that they are unfaithful, every black girl in the class started clapping. Oh, fellas. Anyway, work was worky today. I got a lot of work done on the website today, since we’re finally adding a section to show off our cool new newsletter, designed by yours truly. What can I say? BZP got mad skillz. I picked up Stefy on my way to English Lit this afternoon, and she surprised me with TWO cool new t-shirts. One is specifically for MSU’s 2005 Final Four, and the other one was meant for last weekend’s game, and says something like “This is what it means to be ELITE.” Isn’t Elite the elitist word ever? Yep, I have MSU fever baby! Well, my English Lit class was pretty boring today. We were talking about Shakespeare’s famous “Twelfth Night” today, which is supposed to be really funny. Of course, the prof managed to make it boring as hell, so that meant a few games of Tetris were in store for me—hey, don’t laugh…I just set another crazy-ass high score. The one great piece of good news though was that we were able to talk my prof into letting my group delay our presentation by five days, since two of our group members will be in St. Louis for the basketball games this weekend (one’s in the band, and one is a cheerleader). So, that gave us some more breathing room, which always helps. Stef and I took off right after class, and I dropped her off at the dorm while I ran back to the pad to pick up my tennis gear, since we decided to take advantage of the nice weather and get some playing time in today. Stefy hadn’t played since high school, and didn’t even really know how to hit the ball when we started. Of course, after about an hour at the Zack Pohl School of Tennis, she was hitting some really solid ground strokes, and actually might’ve been playing better than me. It was really fun to get out and play though, and I especially liked seeing Stefy in her cute tennis clothes. Hopefully it’ll be warm enough this spring for us to get out and do this more often. We capped off our little sports outing with a couple of Jersey Giants on the way home, and man those hit the spot. Luckily we didn’t miss Jeopardy tonight, so we had something worth watching while we ate. Of course, Stef totally kicked my ass with all of the questions tonight, so I felt kinda stupid. Plus, I just think that Alex Trebeck is one cocky bastard. I mean, of COURSE he knows all the answers...they’re right there in front of him. He doesn’t have to be so damn condescending though. Well anyway, that was pretty much it for tonight. I don’t have class tomorrow, so I’m looking forward to sleeping in.

Tuesday, March 29

Man, the weather just keeps getting better and better. Gotta love the flip flops. Film History was, ummm… interesting today. We watched this Hong Kong movie, “Peking Opera Blues”, which was VERY bizarre. Well, I did doze off for about the first 30-40min, so that probably made it all the more confusing, but it was poorly sub-titled, and the story was taking place in 13th Century China or something, so who knows what was going on. Work wasn’t too bad today. I’m still working on the stupid brochure I started several months ago now, but hopefully we’re finally kicking it into high gear now. Anyway, my couple hours at the office went by really fast, and I was back on campus before I knew it. Film Theory’s screening was much more entertaining this afternoon. We watched “Stella Dallas”, which was a pretty depressing story, but managed to match up pretty well with the readings we’ve been doing lately, so I think it was a good pick. That’s one thing I have to give Prof. Fay credit for this semester—she definitely knows how to pick the best movies for our readings. I enjoyed my nice, warm walk back to my car after class, and then went back to the apartment for a bit for the early part of the evening. I made myself my first meatloaf sandwich of the week, and scarfed that baby down in about 2s. Other than that, I really didn’t do a whole hell of a lot tonight, since my paper for tomorrow was already done. I did emerge from my apartment just in time for Sex and the City over at Holmes though, so I wasn’t a total hermit tonight. I thought the first episode was especially funny though—“Oh, you’re SOOOO busy!”. Anyway, that’s it for today. Better soak up the weather tomorrow, because I guess it’s back into the 40’s on Thursday.

Monday, March 28

Well, I had a bunch of stuff to do to get caught up on my English homework from the weekend that’s due on Wednesday (just a short 1-pager), so I stayed home this morning to get caught up on some things. I normally would’ve still gone into work today, but since my classes were cancelled for Thursday, I figured I could make up the time then. It was so gorgeous outside today. The sandals and spring jacket were out, and it was fantastic. Man, I LOVE spring. Anyway, my English Lit class dragged out FOREVER this afternoon, since we had another group presentation to sit through. It was actually pretty helpful though, since the group was lecturing on my paper that’s due on Wednesday, so I did take some decent notes. But seriously…did they need to take an HOUR? Blah. The night was kind of lazy in front of the TV, with Stef and I watching our new game show favs: Family Feud and Jeopardy. At least they’re sort of educational. I did manage to finish my paper though, so that definitely made me feel like I accomplished something. It’s amazing how much easier it is to write when you actually did the assigned readings! This whole not-procrastinating thing isn’t so bad after all.
