off to grandma's
09.23.05 ~ 3:08 P.M.

Well, our little outing to my grandparent's house went well yesterday. It was really good to see them for the first time since getting back from London. Of course, grandma had this humungoid dinner waiting for us, so we were all totally stuffed after we ate, and I walked out of their house with a bag full of leftovers.

Stefy and I pretty much just came home and watched "The Apprentice" after driving home through this crazy lighting storm with Brian. The show was actually pretty decent tonight, and the psycho biatch who we couldn't stand got voted off, so that was good.

Today was a REALLY low-key day at the office. It was pretty much just Wendy and me in the office today, so things got a little slow. I did go meet with my academic advisor, Ruth Mowry, for a while this morning. Basically, I'm still on track to graduate in the spring, and it's looking like my last semester will be a pretty easy one. The only real headache was hearing that I need to get on the ball about about applying to graduate school (if I decide that's what I want to do next fall), but of course, I already knew that. So, I'm hoping to get in touch with Prof. Nieland sometime soon to start kicking that ball around, but we'll see how it goes.

After work this afternoon, Stefy and I are gonna hit the road for her house and do some more ottoman/coffee table shopping for my apartment, and will probably go out to dinner in Royal Oak afterwards. Tomorrow morning Miss Spiro and I are still planning on heading down to Sandusky for one last summer hurrah at Cedar Point. It should be a lot of fun... here's hoping I get to ride the Dragster.

step out of the driving rain
09.22.05 ~ 3:08 P.M.

Okay, so maybe my mid-week sign off was a bit premature. Anyway, yesterday was pretty hectic, like I predicted, but I managed to survive. Actually, finishing up the scene by scene breakdown of my script was actually much easier than I had originally anticipated. The finished product was about 11 pages long though, and I feel like I did a good job of tying the story together. Hopefully this thing will make writing the first ten pages of script go that much easier. The big headache from last night was working on my macroeconomics problem set. For some reason I was totally over-thinking the problems, and wasn't looking back far enough in my notes to figure out how to answer the questions. Eventually I managed to teach myself what to do, but it took me a hell of a lot longer than I ever thought it would.

Today was ridiculously rainy around town, and even though it pains me to say this, I can definitely feel fall coming. It's just in the air, there's no getting around it. Cold, cloudy, rainy... blah. I really hate fall. Honestly, I almost think fall is worse than winter sometimes, because it teases you as a season. I mean, spring and summer are obvioulsy great, but then fall sneaks up on you. It teases you too. Watch, it'll be in the upper-70s or low 80s one last time before October starts next week, and then it'll just be all down hill from there.

Aside from the weather though, my classes went really well. My macro class went by pretty fast, and I actually felt like I was finally getting the hang of things for the first time today. Screenwriting was pretty nerve-wracking, since we all had to get up in front of the class and read our scene by scene breakdowns, but I survived. Professor Wray didn't call me up to the front until near the end of class though, so that meant I got to sit there and be nervous the whole time. He seemed relatively complimentary about the first three scenes he had me read, but then again, he could still end up hating the rest of it.

After work today I'm meeting Stefy and Brian at my place so we can all car pool down to Jackson to visit my grandparents. I haven't seen them since I got home from London, so I guess that makes me a pretty horrible grandson. Well anyway, it'll be good to see them finally. I guess that's it for today. Work tomorrow, and then getting to the Point on Saturday. I can't wait!

scene by scene, day by day
09.21.05 ~ 4:05 P.M.

Yikes. This week has suddenly gotten even busier. My scene by scene breakdown is going really well, but is taking a lot longer than I originally thought it would. In two and a half hours yesterday I managed to knock off about six pages single-spaced, and I'm only about halfway through the film. Still, I was encouraged by how fast the time seemed to go. Usually I can only churn about about a page every hour and a half, so I guess it's good that I'm going a lot faster than that. My other headache for tonight is finishing up my macroeconomics homework. I thought it would be easy enough, but for some reason I got really stuck on a problem when I was at Stef's last night. Of course, it probably didn't help that I didn't have my book with me so I could look up the right way to solve it.

And if I thought THIS week was stressful, next week is gonna be a doozy. I have three, yes, THREE mid-terms next week, and they're all going to be real PITA's: COM 225, EC 301, and EC 302. Oh, and the first ten pages of my screenplay will be due on Thursday. Fun, fun.

On a sunnier note, it's looking like Stef and I will make another short weekend getaway trip to Ohio this weekend, but this time we're heading to Sandusky. Yep, after missing the summer season at Cedar Point, we're finally making some time to get down to the best amusement park in the world for a day. Hopefully I'll get to ride the Dragster this time, but I won't hold my breath.

Anyway, I guess that's it for now. If I don't get another chance to post again... enjoy the weekend!

quickie
09.20.05 ~ 12:16 P.M.

Sorry about all the short posts lately, but things have been really busy with school and work and everything.

Dinner with Stef's mom was a lot of fun last night. We went to Bravo and chatted for a long time after we ate. I always enjoy dinners like that. Afterwards Stefy and I just went back to my apartment and settled in for a TV night. We ended up discovering that Jurassic Park was on USA, and after talking abotu wanting to see it recently, we were both excited to get a chance to watch it for the first time in forever.

This morning I had macroeconomics, and I found out that I somehow managed to pull out a 3.0 on our first quiz, which I was pretty sure I bombed on last week. Screenwriting got out early today, but I feel like we actually learned a lot about the actual process of writing a screenplay. Now all I have to do is go home tonight and pound out a five to six page scene-by-scene breakdown of my story. Easy peasy.

on the road to ohio
09.19.05 ~ 7:28 A.M.

This is going to have to be a short post because I don't have a lot of time to write at the moment, but Stefy and I had a really fun weekend in Ohio. We kept things pretty low key, and pretty much just stayed close to home -- except of course for a trip to Eason -- and played games with my mom and Dan. It was just a really nice time, and I was glad that we were finally able to make it down to Ohio for the first time in forever. Hopefully we won't go so long in between visits again.

Anyway, it's back to the grind today. I have my comm class this morning, then my snooze-fest microecon class, and then back to work for the afternoon. Once I duck out of the office for the day though, I'm planning to meet up with Stef and her mom for dinner on the West end of town, and then go do some shopping at Art Van with them. It should be a nice night. Well, I hope everyone had a great weekend.
