attack of the labels
10.20.05 ~ 4:22 P.M.
First, let me say that I'm already sick of this
fall weather. It was 34º when I left the apartment this morning.
I had to wear my winter coat to class. What a drag, Michigan.
My macroeconomics class today was even longer
and boringer (is that a word?) than yesterday's micro class.
I can honestly say that I stayed awake throughout the entire
class period though. It was just very... blah. Economists are
just way too in love with graphs, that's all there is to it.
My screenwriting class was cancelled today, which
explains why there isn't the usual ten page script post this
week. Don't worry though... I'll have ten more, plus a complete
re-write of the first 40 pages by next Thursday. I know you're
all waiting with baited breath.
Work was attack of the labels again today. I took
a huge ass box chocked full of the stupid newsletters, and spent
a good chunk of my seven-hour day slapping our "sorry we
f-ed" up labels on them. What a P.I.T.A. Hopefully I'll
be done with these things by next week though, and won't have
to worry about the next newsletter for another six weeks or
so.
Well, tomorrow is the first home MSU football
game since our downward spiral started three weeks ago with
the game against Michigan. Hopefully the wheels haven't totally
fallen off the wagon yet. I mean, for the love of Pete, we're
playing Northwestern on Saturday, so hopefully a W isn't too
much to ask.
It sounds like Stef and I are going to go hang
out at my dad's for a bit on Sunday. Not really sure what we'll
do there other than relax, but right now that's sounding pretty
good. Then next Monday (maybe Tuesday? we're still not sure)
is the U2 concert at the Palace. Sigh. I can't wait.
Oh, yeah. Tonight Stef and I are going to see
a play on campus at the Fairchild theater. I forget the name
offhand, but I'll have an update tomorrow.
Seacrest out.
hump day
10.19.05 ~ 4:34 P.M.
What do you know? Another sunny day, and another
day at the office.
My Comm lab met again today, and was a complete
waste of time like usual. Still, I guess it beats going to class.
Microeconomics was even more boring than usual, and I found
myself nodding off a couple times during the lecture. I can
only take so many graphs and producer/consumer surplus equations
in one sitting before my brain shuts down.
Work was a D-R-A-G all day today because we found
an error in the newsletter... after printing 2,700
copies of it. Yep, the woman who wrote the front page article
got the date wrong for our annual fundraising dinner, even though
I got it right on a sidebar graphic. Ultimately it's my responsibility
to catch errors like that since I'm officially the editor of
this fine publicaiton, but I was a little peeved that, of the
million nit-picky suggestions I got from other staff members,
no one managed to catch this. Grrr. So, that left poor Kim and
I spending most of the day putting tacky little correction stickers
on the bottom of the newsletters because I guess we just assume
that readers are too stupid to figure out the correct date --
even though it's right in big bold letters on the side of the
page, on our website, and will be coming to people in the mail
with their save-the-date cards and invitations. Grrr. Honestly
though, I'm really just mad at myself for letting such a stupid
error slip through the cracks. What a pain.
Well, tonight will hopefully be a nice, quiet,
low-key evening at the apartment with my girl. Stefy is working
on a resume this week for her career class, so I'm going to
help her spruce it up and look pretty. I guess that's it for
now.
a sunny, slow day
10.18.05 ~ 3:32 P.M.
Well, it's finally nice outside again today. And
guess where I spent the afternoon? Yep... at work. I don't know
what the deal was today, but the clock just seemed to tick a
little slower for some reason.
The good news today was that my film class won't
meet again until next Thursday. Originally, we were just going
to get next Tuesday off to work on our 40 page revision, but
Prof. Wray realized that it was pointless to also make us come
on Thursday and turn in 10 pages that we'd be revising for the
next class meeting anyway... without getting any comments from
him. So, he just decided to axe this Thursday's session as well.
Sweet!
Other than that, it was a pretty boring day. I'm
back listening to U2 full tilt in preparation for next week's
show. I mean, it's pretty much the norm anyway, but I'm trying
to reach back for all of the oddball songs that might end up
on the setlist. I want to be prepared.
the magical mystery tour
10.17.05 ~ 7:28 A.M.
Wow. That's all I can say, really. I mean, Paul
Freakin' McCartney. Fourteenth row. It was almost a surreal
experience, but it was just absolutely FANTASTIC. He opened
with "The Magical Mystery Tour," and then went right
into "Flaming Pie," which was kind of cool considering
that I was just about the only person in our section who knew
the lyrics. The show completely spanned the entire McCartney
catalogue, with lots of Beatles, Wings, Solo, and brand new
stuff to fill the insanely great two and a half hour set.
If there was one thing worth complaining about,
it was the drunk-ass morons sitting all around us. There was
a really weird group of people scattered all around our row
who knew each other, and were unbelieveably obnoxious. One dude
in particular was ridiculously tall, wide, smelly, and loud.
At one point during the show when Paul was doing one of his
quieter acoustic numbers, these yokels were screaming at each
other, and one guy kept leaning in front of Stefy and me blocking
our view (he was from a different row). Stef told him to move,
and he went off on her. I tried to stick up for her and told
him to have a few more drinks, and then the expletives started
spurting out of his mouth. What a class act. Well, at least
he finally left right after that though, and we could get back
to enjoying the concert.
Anyway, the show was, of course, amazing. The
highlights for me were: I Will, Blackbird, Helter Skelter, Hey
Jude, Let it Be, Band on the Run, Maybe I'm Amazed, Fine Line,
Live and Let Die, and the outro to Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts
Club Band/The End medly that Paul did to close the show. There's
really not much else to say, other than thanking my gracious
hosts the Spiros for bringing me along for the show. It was
a truly unforgettable evening.
Whew. Well, Sunday Stef and I spent most of the
morning recovering from the night before. We ran some errands
to the grocery store for Teri, and helped peel apples through
the early afternoon yesterday. Stef's sister-in-law Marina had
a birthday on Thursday, so we had the whole Southers crew (including
Marina's parents) and Stef's grandma over for a nice dinner.
The meal was spectacular, like usual, and it was really great
to spend time with everyone.
Well, I guess that's it for now. Gee, I really
can't think of a better weekend, or a better concert experience.
Wait... what's that you say? U2 is coming into town next week?
