college prom
11.04.05 ~ 4:02 P.M.

Stefy and I are going to the prom tonight. Okay, not the actual prom. It's this fundraiser thingy that some friends of Stef's are involved with, that we ended up getting invited to. I know this sounds terrible, but I'm not even 100% sure what the cause is supporting. Hopefully I'll figure it out sooner or later. Anyway, the important part is that Stef and I are getting all gussied up tonight to go out for a fancy schmancy dinner at the Mariott in East Lansing, and that we're going to have a really fun/amazingly cute night out on the town. Pictures will be provided by Monday ;-)

Anyway, my day was otherwise kinda weird today, for a Friday. First, I had an "admin team" meeting with Christi, Mel, and Kim this morning to discuss plans for next Thursday's "Evening for Economic Justice," which is basically our big fundraising event of the year. We just needed to put our heads together, and make sure everyone was on the same page about various plans for the dinner. My big project is putting the evening's program together, and I already think it's coming along quite nicely.

After the meeting I had to skip out for a few hours to head over to the Union for a Career Fair. Basically, the College of Arts and Letters put together this mini career fair with six different sessions, geared towards students with majors in the creative arts arena. I sat in on a discussion among photographers and graphic designers first, which turned out to be pretty interesting. These people were all freelance workers, and more or less just talked about their experiences in their respective fields. It's not like I soaked up any earth shattering wisdom from the session, but it did make me feel good about the prospects of a career in graphic/web design. The second session was a panel of filmmakers and talent agents talking about making it in the film industry. Now, you would probably think that this session made more sense for me, a film major, to attend, but you'd be wrong. I mean, they basically didn't say anything other than, "ya gotta work hard," and, "there's a lot to do in Michigan," and "ya gotta work hard." I mean, no shit guys... how about giving me something I can use? Anyway, I bailed on that second session after about a half hour, and came back to work for the afternoon.

I'm just about to head home now, and change my clothes for tonight's big event (whatever it's for). Tomorrow Stef and I are driving over to Bloomfield to spend some time with her folks, who just got back from a two week trek out to Las Vegas and San Francisco. Later on in the evening, it sounds like we're going to this big birthday dinner a friend of the family at an Italian restaurant, so that should be fun. Well, I guess that's it. I hope everyone enjoys their weekends.

I love Thursdays. Classes for the week are o-v-e-r. Ah, yes.

Macroeconomics was pretty much more of the same today. A flurry of notes. More confused looks. Awkward silences. Yep, it was a pretty normal day. Screenwriting went pretty well, too. We read script updates today, yacked for a bit, and listenend to one kid finally do his first table read (he was the last person to go from our first cycle of readers). Nothing too exciting.

I had a pounding headache all afternoon, so my time at work is kind of a blur. Getting a hair cut later in the day here, before heading home for a low key night at home. Stef's heading home tonight to get a dress for tomorrow's benefit dinner thingy (that's not the technical term, in case you were wondering), so I'm bachin' it tonight.

Tomorrow is gonna be a weird day. I have an "admin team" meeting at 9 a.m. in the morning, but then I'm splitting out for pretty much the rest of the day. MSU is hosting these little workshops for students to find out about potential careers in various areas, so I'm going to at least a couple of those. I'm not expecting anything earth-shattering, but who knows... could be good.

I'll keep this political rant short, but I just wanted to give a shout out to my man, Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid. The Repugs thought they were doing themselves a favor by helping send Tom Daschle out to pasture last fall, and instead they got a real fighter—a boxer even—to deal with instead. His little move yesterday finally showed, for the first time since Al Gore conceded the presidency in 2000, that Democrats may still possess a pair of... well, you know. The last thing I'll say on this matter is that I just hope the dems don't recoil into the fetal position for the next twelve months.

Anyway, enough politics for now. How about that November weather?! I saw people sitting outside eating at the Peanut Barrel today for cryin' out loud. What a week. Now watch, it'll start snowing next week. Ah well. Better soak it up while it lasts.

My ten pages of script for the week are officially done. The only bit of homework left for the week is the usual macroeconomics bs. Hopefully that won't kill too much of my night. There was good news today though on other school fronts. I finally got my grade from Monday's Comm exam... an 86%. That's a nice, shiny 3.5, which is better than what I got on the last test, and especially tasty because I barely studied this time. I guess that's just a lesson for ya kids... studying's for losers.

Anyhoo, I'm in a pretty jolly mood right now. It's shaping up to be a nice rest-of-the-week. Hope yours is going well.

I must say... good job, Michigan. The weather (aside from the clouds today) has been wonderful lately. I can remember Halloweens in the past where it was in the 30s, freezing, and nasty-rainy. Last night was gorgeous. It's in the 50s today. It'll be in the upper-60s by Thursday. God bless you, global warming.

Anyway, Halloween was great last night. Stefy and I went over to dad's house to see the girls all dressed up for trick-or-treating. I can't believe it, but I had never actually been over at their house before for Halloween, so it was nice to finally get over there on the actual day to see the costumes this year. Check out the pictures, if you're so inclined.

School wasn't too bad today. My macro econ class was nuts though. I honestly filled up five entire pages in my notebook with graphs, notes, and all sorts of crazy econ equations. The teacher was just in high gear today. She's pretty good though, and does a nice job of explaining everything without putting me to sleep, so it was bearable.

We got our most recent ten pages back today, and Prof. Wray gave me some good notes on it. I almost feel nervous that he hasn't been more critical of my writing, because it leaves me flying by the seat of my pants. Of course, I'll take words of encouragement from a guy like him any day. My next set of pages is coming along well, and should be online by Thursday. Keep your eyes ready for that update.

My apartment is officially devoid of food. Well, that's a big of an over statement, but I can't really make a meal out of a can of green beans. So, I'll probably have to make a Meijer run tonight. I'm still getting used to the Lake Lansing Meijer though, and am still a little unsure of where things are, but hopefully it won't eat up to much of my night (Meijer has a way of sucking you in for hours).

That's it for now. Later, gator.

Sorry that it's been so long in between posts. It was a busy weekend.

First, let's start off on Friday. Stef and her friend Sara came and picked me up at my place shortly after getting out of work. We went over to Stef's and spent most of the evening carving pumpkins. Sara did a really cute jack-o-lantern, but Stef's was amazing. She did a stencil trace of Andy Warhol's famous Marilyn Diptych, and it turned out really well (check the forthcoming picture series).

After the pumpkin carving, we sat down and watched the original Amityville Horror with Stef's other friends Danielle and Lindsay. The movie was pretty terrible, but I guess if nothing else it was at least fun to make jokes at. James Brolin and Margot Kidder is an automatic barrel o' laughs.

Saturday was the football game. After last week's ass pounding at the hands of the Wildcats (what a disgrace), it was nice to see that the Spartans weren't ready to completely piss away the 2005 season. Of course, we were playing meak and mild Indiana, but it was still a really fun game. And how often can I say that I got a bit of a tan in late October? The weather was beau-ti-ful. What a fun afternoon!

Well, Saturday evening was our unofficial Halloween. Stefy and I dressed up as Richie and Margot Tennenbaum, and I must say, Miss Spiro did a hell of a job picking out the stuff for our costumes. The only missing piece was a brown(ish) sport jacket for me to wear, and we were able to drive out to my dad's house and pick one up after the game. While we were at dad's house, we were able to crash in on their weekend bonfire, so it was nice to see some of the usual suspects there. Anyway, Stef and I got back to her place by 7:30 or something like that, and just sort of milled about for a while before finally getting dressed up at around 8:30.

Basically, we had this really convoluted plan of how and when we were going to meet up with a bunch of Stef's friends for some picture-taking before all heading out to the Temple Club for some Halloween dancing. The plans got really botched, and some of Stef's friends ended up taking longer than we anticipated, but it all worked out in the end, and we were still able to get some really cute pictures together before heading out to the club.

Now, I've never been to the Temple Club before. For that matter, I've really only been to one club in my whole life. I'm sure all of you are aware of my wild 'n crazy ways, so this probably comes as no shock to you. Anyway, it was a lot of fun to go out dancing (yes, I can admit it), and show off our cool costumes. We were having a lot of fun dancing and whatnot, but then at midnight these retarded DJ's from 94.1 came onstage to host a costume contest. That basically killed the music (and the mood), so we didn't stick around for much longer after that. Since we had such a huge mob of people carpooling in two vehicles, we pretty much decided to call it a night at that point, and went back to Stef's place and collapsed.

Well, Sunday was pretty much downhill from there. Stef and I tried going out for a nice breakfast in the morning, but most of the places in town (we even resorted to Denny's) had long waits, so we gave up and just bought some stuff at Meijer. Stef ended up making pancakes and hash browns for a late breakfast while I did some tidying up in her bathroom as a thank you. After that though, we pretty much took it easy for the rest of the day. I tried (in vane) studying for my Comm exam tommorrow several times throughout the day, but I just couldn't get into it. I dunno. I just hate that class, and it's all stuff that you pretty much have to memorize. What a d-r-a-g.

Today was back to the grind though. I actually felt pretty prepared for the test this morning, and feel like I did reasonably well on it. Stef and I did a quick lunch at Cosi before my econ class this afternoon, which was mind-numbing, as usual. I went to work after class, and got a surprise from my girl shortly after showing up. Stef brought me a piece of the fun-fetti cake she baked yesterday, and then hung out for a few minutes to chat. It was a nice treat, and I liked getting to show her off to a couple new people.

Whew. I'm pooped. This is a long post. I'll end it here. Just heading out to dad's tonight to see my amazingly cute little sisters all dressed up for Halloween. You can expect a new photo series tomorrow. Until then...
