In a word, dumb:
MSU just released the names of four more Spartans who won’t play in the Champs Sports Bowl, joining Jonal Saint-Dic. Sophomore T.J. Williams, senior Terry Love and freshman Abre Leggins also are academically ineligible, while senior SirDarean Adams won’t play after violating an unrelated team rule.
Not exactly the kind of news release MSU likes to put out on Christmas Eve. Saint-Dic is obviously the biggest loss, but it’ll hurt to not have Adams as well. Williams is playing sparingly of late at cornerback, Leggins doesn’t play, and Love’s exit means Devin Thomas will return punts — the biggest case of addition by subtraction I can recall.
Still, it’s a downer for a team that was so excited for this opportunity.
Yep, bust your ass for four years, finally make it to a bowl game during your senior season, then screw yourself out of an opportunity to graduate with an important victory.
I’m glad Dantonio is putting the screws down on these kids, but this is still really disappointing. We can’t expect the program to move forward if our guys keep making bone headed mistakes like these.
